Cupcake Bloggers Who Hate Cupcakes

They look so cute on the plate. They are so little and inviting. They are topped with frosting that invokes images of clouds and rainbows, or deep chocolate rivers of pleasure. They are topped with crunchy, sprinkle things, and they might even be topped with flowers, or with small toys. They taste like cakes, only they don't need a plate or fork. They are a part of everyone's childhood, and they are recognized by all. They are called cupcakes, and they are prized and loved by everyone, right?

Wrong!  Believe it or not, there are blogs on the internet that are dedicated to people's repulsion, hatred, and disgust of all things cupcake. Some people might wonder to themselves what the cupcake has ever done to the blogger. The issue for many food bloggers, or for bloggers in general who discuss their disgust of the cupcake, is that they don't want to be figuratively force-fed the cupcake. Many people feel that the cupcake craze that has been front and center in the culinary world for the past seven years or so is old, tired, and needs to be retired!

Many cupcake bloggers who hate cupcakes feel that not only is the media making too much out of very little, but a good number of these bloggers can pinpoint the exact moment when they felt as if the cupcake craze went too far. Many of these bloggers state that Sex and the City made the cupcake, and specifically the Magnolia Bakery in New York City, well, sexy and relevant. Indeed, in the fashion obsessed world of NYC, it was a revelation that ladies could indeed snack on cake in a way that was classy, compact, and chic.  The cupcake as fashion plate is what is making many of these food bloggers go bonkers!

Beyond this, there are many newer variations on the cupcake that make many feel as if the cupcake craze needs to go away. There are cupcakes created with herbs, spices, vinegars, and marinades that go well above and beyond good taste, literally. There is one cupcake creation that no matter how hard bakeries try to make it stylish, it will never be. This is the cupcake cake, otherwise known as the CCC. It's a grouping of cupcakes that are slathered with frosting in the style of a sheet cake. There is nothing stylish or chic about the CCC, even with its hipper-than-thou abbreviations.

So, it's not that cupcake bloggers who hate cupcakes actually hate the cupcake. They hate that something intended for simplicity has grown into something that has obscured the majesty and the complexity of authentic cakes.
